Avila : the best medieval city wall preserved in Spain. Built in the second half of the 12th century , today it's 2.5 kilometres long and walkers find along the route approximately 2500 battlements, 88 towers, 6 gates and 3 wicked gates plus the apse of the cathedral and a singular bell tower.

I agree, very much like a painting!
Where was the photo taken? Closest thing I've seen to this is the walls of Toledo (which I suspect have no resemblance, it's just my memory playing tricks on me)

Wow, how menicing. I never thought about how large city wall would need to be to protect the inhabitants. Great photo. They are all so fun to look at:)

Beautiful lighting. The low angle of the sun adds a wonderful glow to the battlements. It is a plce i would love to visit.
